Early Life and Education

Joko Widodo, the 7th President of Indonesia, was born as Joko Widodo on June 21, 1961, in the Central Javanese city of Surakarta.

His father, Widjiatno Notomihardjo, was a carpenter, and his mother, Sujiatmi, was a housewife. Due to his family's poverty, Widodo began working as a street vendor and a porter as a child. He learned the carpentry trade from his father and later sold souvenirs and furniture.

In 1985, Widodo graduated with a degree in forestry engineering from the prestigious Gadjah Mada University.

Widodo's political career began in 2005 when he was elected Mayor of Surakarta.
